Position Summary

The Billing Associate is responsible for reviewing, verifying information, and preparing accessions for preliminary and final submissions to the billing vendor. This role, vital for the Billing Operations department, is also tasked with the responsibility of responding to and resolving a wide range of billing-related patent and client inquiries as well as acting as a liaison between departments within BostonGene, billing vendor, customers, and the patient.

Responsibilities

  • Complete preliminary billing activities within BostonGene SalesForce portal including documents review, data entry, error logging, and case submission to the billing vendor.
  • Facilitate and support client billing as required, as well as handling all Self Pay transaction and follow up activities.
  • Maintain and update database of patient billing information.
  • Assist the manager with establishing and maintaining process workflows for billing, reimbursement and related special projects.
  • Address incomplete or inaccurate accessions, collect any missing billing information to ensure timely claims submission.
  • Process financial assistance applications and respond to patients regarding award determinations.
  • Identify and proactively propose process improvements.
  • Assist internal and external clients with their billing inquiries via phone and email, while demonstrating a positive and professional image through communication.
  • Process and complete prior-authorizations for third-party insurance carriers when needed.
  • Assist billing vendor with appeal efforts, collecting additional medical records and patients’ consents for appeals.
  • Facilitate collection of payments, made directly to patients by insurance company.
  • Handle outreaches to patients as needed.
  • Review and enter supplemental-test charges to billing vendor’s system.
  • Process any corresponding for billing department and re-route it as appropriate.
  • Provide billing related education, guidance, and support to BostonGene’s customers and patients.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of medical billing or healthcare administration experience. 3+ years of finance and billing experience preferred
  • Computer proficiency, strong typing and data entry skills
  • Experience with finance and billing in a pharmaceutical company
  • Experience working in a Billing & Reimbursement setting
  • Experience working in a call center
  • Demonstrated history of professionalism
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Coding experience, ICD-10 knowledge
  • Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel
  • Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills that include excellent skills in written communication, oral communication, collaboration, and problem solving with other departments and colleagues
  • Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of patient data privacy
  • Understanding of confidentiality as it pertains to financial information
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance or Business preferred
